I’ve always loved finding meaning in art and creating art with meaning. As life got busy raising children, I attempted to capture some of the daily magical moments in the outdoors that comes with spending time in nature together as a family.
In 2019, I started a nine-month art project through an artistic non-profit that supports artists, of putting images and words together into a story. That project grew into an illustrated book, Paddle to the Moon. It is a picture book for children ages 4-8, and follows a young girl on a quest to catch the moon while riding in a kayak with her mother at nightfall. Soon after, Lullaby Loon, Feel the Forest, Search the Sky and Feather Jar were additional stories I developed as I continued to carry my camera around capturing the magic happening around us as we spent time at our cabin in the North Woods.
I’m inspired by northern landscapes, natural lighting, water, and the deep impact such environments make on human relationships. Over the years, I’ve developed a style of photo illustration that combines realism and fantasy. I enjoy combining different media to enhance the art experience for the audience and enrich meaning of materials used in my art.
Growing up along a national scenic waterway in the North Woods of Wisconsin informed my appreciation for nature and being outdoors. Water has been a continuing theme in the art I have created throughout the years in its many forms from mulitmedia art installations, photography and handmade art books about the timeline of water cycles.
